சாதி பெயரைச் சொல்லி திட்டிய ஆசிரியை! 11ம் வகுப்பு மாணவன் தற்கொலை! நாமக்கல் மாவட்டம், மோடமங்கலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பழனிச்சாமி, செல்வி தம்பதியினருக்கு மூன்று மகன்கள். அவர்களில் 2வது மகனான ரிதுன் மோடமங்கலத்திற்கு அருகிலுள்ள தண்ணீர் பந்தல் பாளையம் அரசு மேல்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் 11ம் வகுப்பு படித்து வந்தான். இந்நிலையில், ரிதுன் நேற்று காலை வகுப்பறையில் தன்னுடன் படிக்கும் சக மாணவியிடம் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்ததை தவறாக புரிந்து கொண்ட பள்ளியின் தாவரவியல் ஆசிரியர் தெய்வாம்பாள், ரிதுனையும், அவனது பள்ளித் தோழியையும் கண்டித்து அடித்ததோடு, வகுப்பறையை விட்டு வெளியேச் சென்று வாசலில் ஒரு மணி நேரத்திற்கு மேலாக நிற்க வைத்து அருந்ததியினர் பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த ரிதுனை சாதியின் பெயரைச் சொல்லி தகாத வார்த்தைகளால் திட்டியதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.   இதனால் மனமுடைந்த ரிதுன், கடிதம் எழுதி வைத்து விட்டு பள்ளிக்கு அருகில் உள்ள ரயில் தண்டவாளத்தில் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார். தகவல் அறிந்து விரைந்து வந்த ரயில்வே காவல் துறையினர், ரிதுனின் உடலை மீட்டு பிரேத பரிசோதனைக்காக ஈரோடு மாவட்டம் பெருந்துறையில் உள்ள அரசு மருத்துவகல்லூரி மருத்துவமன...
